ALT Software Releases High-Performance X Server for Embedded Systems
Embedded X11 Server provides support for X11 client applications deployed on real-time embedded operating systems.
TORONTO, Canada - January 5th, 2010 - ALT Software, an embedded device software company that specializes in high-performance graphics, has announced the release of an Embedded X11 Server that provides support for X11 client applications deployed on real time embedded operating systems. Available in standalone configurations or tightly integrated with ALT’s OpenGL graphics drivers, the implementation has been developed from the ground up for portability and to run on a range of processors, embedded operating systems, and graphics devices.
ALT’s standalone X11 configurations provide hardware initialization and direct rendering access to the graphics processor to improve performance and functionality. The integrated X11 server provides an environment where X11 applications leverage OpenGL rendering functions to support sophisticated graphical user interfaces in embedded systems, as well as legacy 2D application interfaces based on the X API. Currently supported are the Wind River VxWorks and Green Hills INTEGRITY real-time operating systems (RTOS) and range of GPU and CPU options. ALT has also stated that the X-Server can be easily ported to other platforms.
“ALT’s customers must constantly leverage their existing applications and tool chains in new ways,” said Mark Snyder, ALT VP of Product Management. “Whether customers are migrating their legacy applications onto modern hardware for the purpose of expanding functionality, or are building new systems for ground control, mission control, or information management using their proven tool chains and expertise, ALT’s X-Server provides the capability to quickly migrate applications using the X-Windows standard to embedded platforms. This means our customers are able to rapidly deploy system upgrades while maintaining confidence that they will have the graphical power and performance to expand functionality with modern visualization techniques in a way that suits their schedule and budget constraints."
With features such as support for running multiple applications simultaneously, 2D and 3D graphics acceleration, video capture, and direct hardware rendering, this embedded X-Server is an excellent complement to ALT Software’s line of high performance embedded graphics solutions.
